Grantee City

The Souris River in Minot is prone to flooding, and in 2011 its overflowing banks caused nearly $700 million in damage to 4,100 homes and businesses. Minot is one of 10 cities taking part in the Cities of Service Resilience AmeriCorps program. Through this program, the city is engaging citizen volunteers to take care of the river, helping citizens to see it as an asset worth celebrating rather than a hazard to be feared. The city is also supporting volunteer cleanups and river-oriented recreation as it prepares for new flood control measures and riverfront redevelopment.

Minot has been a member of the Cities of Service coalition since 2015, when Mayor Chuck Barney signed the Declaration of Service.

Mayor Chuck Barney

Chief Resilience Officer and Planning Director Robert Davis
