Mayor Richard Walker
Mayor Richard Walker was elected as Mayor in November 2020, and again in November 2022. His term will expire in November 2026. Richard and his wife Catherine live with their five children, Delaney, Steffy James, Scott, Drake, and Hayes in Parkland Isles. The family moved to Parkland from Rockaway, New Jersey in 2014.
As a father of five young children, Rich has always been actively involved in their academic, athletic, and recreational activities. He enthusiastically embraced leadership roles on both athletic and community boards upon his arrival in Parkland. This was a direct continuation of his commitment level in New Jersey. As a member of both the Parkland Soccer Board and the Parkland Little League Board, you could easily find Rich coaching a game, checking on the status of a field, running an evaluation, communicating with the families, or handling registration.
Richard is the proud owner of Bergen Sign Company located in Pompano Beach and Wayne, New Jersey. The company dates back to 1918 and has flourished with his committed leadership. Examples of their signage can be found at Yankee Stadium, Florida State University, and Newark International Airport along with a myriad of retail companies and corporate facilities nationwide. Richard attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey and remains involved with his alma mater as a Housing Corp President for Psi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
Together as a family, Rich, Catherine, and their children, have always engaged in a variety of philanthropic groups and activities. They've embraced fundraising campaigns ranging from Girl Scout events to Parent Teacher Association activities, school board events, community outreach events, and a supply drive in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. They helped successfully raising funds through the Children's Organ Transplant Association for a family friend in need of a kidney. Rich and his wife are also extremely proud of their roles as Santa and Mrs. Clause throughout the holiday season. You can find the Walkers sharing throughout the year by helping with such organizations as SOS Children's Villages, Hope South Florida, and Kids in Distress.
