In 2019, San Francisco was a winner of the Cities of Service Engaged Cities Award for its Civic Bridge program. The award elevates city-led strategies that most successfully engage citizens to help create and implement solutions to pressing local problems. The city brought together private sector volunteers and city staff to develop solutions for public challenges. City staff identified challenges that could benefit greatly from pro-bono help, matched volunteers with city teams, scoped projects, and coached teams on their work.
