The Problem
A quarter of low-income households in Birmingham put a disproportionate amount of their income toward energy costs. With half of the city making less than $25,000 a year, a large portion of the population struggles to pay their bills.
The Solution
The city trains citizen volunteers, with a focus on those aged 50+, to provide improvements in households that increase energy efficiency. Recipients of the home improvements also participate in volunteer-led financial education workshops.
