The Problem
The Urban Institute found that more than 50 percent of Fort Worth residents have debt that is over 60 days past due. More than 40% of the city’s residents also have credit scores that make it difficult for them to obtain low interest loans and credit cards.
The Solution
Fort Worth city leaders recruit volunteers, with a focus on those aged 50+, to provide financial education about topics including financial health, managing credit and debt, and the dangers of predatory financial services in neighborhoods with high levels of poverty and debt.
