Disaster Preparedness and Community Resilience in San Francisco Bay Area

wanted to take a moment to share an inspiring story about disaster preparedness and community resilience.

Last year in the San Francisco Bay Area, there was prevalent flooding due to heavy rainfall. The flooding was exacerbated by drains clogged with trash, fallen leaves, and other contaminants – forcing water to pool or even flow back into communities.

Walmart got together with Cities of Service to brainstorm ideas to get at this problem. We thought it would be great to unleash the power of people in the community to come up with the solutions. So Walmart funded Cities of Service to launch a competitive RFP across the region, looking for the best ideas for disaster preparedness volunteer projects.
