Statement by Cities of Service in Response to President’s Budget Proposal
In his latest budget, the President has once again called for the elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service, including all AmeriCorps programs.
At Cities of Service, we have seen the positive impact of AmeriCorps VISTA members’ service in cities across the country – not just on the communities they serve but on their choices to continue careers in public service after their service year is over.
AmeriCorps members provide invaluable capacity and resources to nonprofits and community organizations that are moving the needle on major issues facing this country, including blight, homelessness, the opioid crisis, disaster resilience, and more.
We sincerely hope Congress continues to do the right thing when the time comes and fund these vital programs and people.
