Love Your Block
2021-2023

Through Love Your Block, city leaders engage citizen volunteers to revitalize city neighborhoods, one block at a time.

The 2021-2023 Love Your Block program, launched in November of 2021, brought together eight cities: Albany, NY; Duluth, MN; El Paso, TX; Erie, PA; Jackson, TN; Salt Lake City, UT; Shawnee, OK; and White Plains, NY to revitalize their neighborhoods, one block at a time thanks to support from the Bloomberg Center for Public innovation at Johns Hopkins,  Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

This cohort of cities was the first to be awarded $100,000 by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins and Cities of Service. The increased grant allowed cities to fund  new Love Your Block Fellow positions within City Hall, an addition to previously existing participation benefits. As part of the program, cities continued to receive funding to support mini-grants for resident-led revitalization projects, support from AmeriCorps VISTA members, deep technical assistance, and engagement in an active community of practice.

To date, Love Your Block 2021-2023 cities successes include completing over 460 mini-grant projects, activating over 10,000 resident and partner volunteers, removing 303,000 pounds of trash and debris, clearing 13,000 acres, and installing 18 public art displays. This important work was made possible by more than 29,000 hours of combined civic deliberation with residents in historically underserved neighborhoods.
