Love Your Block connects city officials with residents to revitalize their neighborhoods, building transformative relationships in the process.
In Lancaster, PA, where Mayor Danene Sorace made Strong Neighborhoods a centerpiece of her administration, the relationships formed through Love Your Block have proven invaluable.
Lancaster was one of ten cities participating in the 2018-2020 Cities of Service Love Your Block program. With a $25,000 grant, technical assistance, and two AmeriCorps VISTA members from Cities of Service, Lancaster was able to provide mini-grants to residents to help them improve their communities. These projects ranged from neighborhood cleanups along Howard Avenue to creating the Crispus Attucks Community Garden, where resident volunteers can teach local children about growing their own food.
Love Your Block helped build a strong foundation of community connections. That network supported Lancaster’s COVID-19 response and continues to make the city stronger.
