Love Your Block is a Cities of Service strategy that brings the mayor’s office together with community residents to revitalize their neighborhoods – one block at a time. The city provides competitive mini-grants to community groups to purchase the supplies needed for their local neighborhood revitalization efforts, and then coordinates city government services to complement and support the community.
In June of 2015, Cities of Service, with support from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and Bloomberg Philanthropies, awarded seven cities with two AmeriCorps VISTA members and $30,000 each to plan and implement Love Your Block in their low-income neighborhoods. Hear from Mayor Martin J. Walsh of Boston, Mayor Virg Bernero of Lansing, Mayor Greg Stanton of Phoenix, and AmeriCorps VISTA members about what the Love Your Block program has done for their cities so far.
